Care of Outdoor Pillow

Nowadays, outdoor living areas are becoming a prominent part of modern house construction. For a cozy patio, comfortable seating is a must. You can consider the outdoor seating as an extension of the indoors, the only difference is that the building material for outdoor seating is different from that of the indoor seating because outdoor furniture has to withstand extreme weather conditions such as sunlight, rain, wind, etc. The best way to take proper care of your outdoor patio pillows is to keep them covered and store them in a clean place when not in use. In this article, we will discuss some of the important steps that you must take to take care of your outdoor pillow and how covering them plays an important role.

Use proper Pillow Covers

Most people think that as they are outdoor pillows they are meant to be left outside without any significant protection. But they are wrong. Yes, they are outdoor pillows but that does not mean they are indestructible. Any object kept outside for a long time, will show signs of wear and tear with time. If you cannot move your entire patio set indoors at the time of bad weather then at least bring the outdoor pillows in or if you are reluctant to do that also then just get proper outdoor pillow covers that will cover your pillows properly. Covers are the best way to protect your outdoor pillows from pollens, dirt, rain, etc, and increase their lifespan.

Do not Power Wash Unless Advised

Most people prefer to power wash their outdoor furniture. This is okay if the manufacturer says it is. What I mean to say here is before power washing your patio furniture always check whether it is instructed by the manufacturer or not. If the manufacturer says that it is okay to power wash then you can precede, that also only if your patio furniture comes with a removable pillow. The frames can be power washed but not the pillows; they should be wiped by hand.

Store Your Furniture in a Covered Area

If covering your patio furniture and its pillows are not helping much at the time of extreme weather conditions then it is recommended to move your furniture to the basement or any covered area where you think you can keep it safe from the extreme weather outside. Keeping your patio furniture and pillows in a storage area when not in use is the best way in which you can extend its life.

Use Waterproofing Solutions

Most outdoor fabrics come with a waterproof solution. With time the waterproof coating of your furniture will deteriorate eventually letting water seep into your cushions. To prevent this, you can use a waterproofing solution. But remember to use PFC-free wax-based waterproofing solution. According to Mother Jones, PFC has been in use since the 1900s but it was not until the 2000s, the side effects of PFC came in front of humanity. PFC can cause cancers in humans and various other health problems.

Conclusion

These are some steps that you must take to protect your outdoor pillows including covering them. Summing up once again, the best thing to do is to keep your pillows covered, clean them, store your cushions, use waterproof covers, and apply the waterproof solution on a timely basis.
