Nowadays, everyone loves to have a pet in their house. Sometimes pets become a vital part of our life. Also, they become like a family member. In short, The Secret Life of Pets 2 is based on the activity of your pets when you are not present in the house.

The Secret Life of Pets 2 is a 2019 American 3D animated comedy film. Director is Chris Renaud, the writer is Brian Lynch and the producer is illumination. In this case, it is the second feature film in the franchise and the sequel of The secret story of pets, which was released in 2016. Theatrically, the movie was published in the US on 7 June 2019 by Universal pictures. $80 million was the movie budget and gross worldwide income was $434.4 million.

Storyline

The story starts with the marriage of Chuck and Katie. Katie is the owner of Max and Duke, who marry Chuck sometime after the event of the first film and has a son Liam. At first, Max disapproves of Liam due to his rough play but eventually softens up to him. Later, the overprotectiveness behavior of Max for Liam turns into an itch, which realizes Katie to get him a dog cone from the veterinarian to lower his symptoms, when Duke decides that the family is going on a road trip outside the city, Max’s luck changes.

When the family reaches a farm owned by Chuck’s uncle, Max grows unaccustomed to the farm’s ways, including local sheepdog roosters. Later, an incident occurs when one of the sheep from the farm ran away, and the Rooster took Max out to find that lost sheep. Rooster encourages and teaches Max about acting unafraid that helps Max to retrieve the lost sheep successfully. And results, Rooster allows Max to stay with him overnight. Moreover, before leaving, the Rooster offers Max one of his handkerchiefs as a gift.

Before Max left, he gave his favorite toy, Busy Bee, to Gidget. But unfortunately, Gidget loses that gifted Busy Bee in a cat infested apartment owned by a cat lady. To sneak into the apartment, the cat lady receives cat lessons from Chloe, Mel, Buddy, and Sweet pea. With the help of Norman, she unintentionally gets crowned as the “queen of cats” and successfully retrieves Busy Bee.

Meanwhile, Snowball, who dreams of being a superhero, meets Shih Tzu Daisy. She explains Snowball to help her in rescuing Hu, who is a White tiger cub. She met Hu on a flight back home being held captive by an abusive circus owner named Sergei. Daisy and Snowball visit the circus and find the White tiger cub Hu. They face difficulty to free Hu from the circus because black wolves of Sergei bring many hurdles in their path. However, when they were escaping from the circus, accidentally Daisy dropped her flower clip, which Sergei’s wolves use to track her down.

Afterward, Daisy and Snowball take Hu to Pop’s apartment, and Pop reluctantly let Hu live in his apartment. But due to Hu’s destruction of the apartment, Pop kicked him out and relocated him to Duke and Max’s department. However, around the same time, the family returns to home.

Meanwhile, Sergei and his black wolves track Daisy with his flower clip left in the circus and capture both Daisy and Hu. While contacting Gidget for assistance in the chase, Sergei escapes in a train moving for the circus in which Snowball, Max and Norman also get back. In the pursuit of the train, cats and Gidget take their owner off in her car.

Later, Snowball and Max free up Daisy and Hu respectively by defeating the wolves and Sergei’s pet monkey. Max successfully infiltrates the train locomotive by using his newfound bravery that Rooster has. Afterward, the rest of the animals went and kicked him out of the train.

But before Sweet pea knocks him out with her car, they are shot by Sergei, Gidget, along with the cat lady and offers the animals a ride back home. Moreover, life goes normal, while Hu takes up residence in his new home with the cat lady and Max and Duke’s family say goodbye to Liam as he enters his first day of preschool. 

Box office

In this case, $80 million was the budget to make this movie. The gross income of this movie is $158.3 million in the USA and Canada and $271.2 million in other territories. It earned a total of $429.5 million worldwide. When factoring all the expenses and revenues Deadline, Hollywood calculated the net profit of $118 million in the film.

The movie was released at the same time with Dark Phoenix and in its opening weekend, the movie was initially projected to gross around $60 million. Moreover, the movie was the second most comprehensive release and played in 4,562 theatres. It makes 17.4 million on its first day. Later, it went on to debut to $46.7 million, less than half the first film’s opening, but still finishing first at the weekend box office.

Based on 26 critics, on Metacritic, the movie has a weighted average score of 55 out of 100, indicating average or mixed reviews. Those at Post track gave it an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars. While the audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of A- on an A+ to F scale.
